Gtx 660 vs HD 7850

what will be better option for 1080p gaming considering 660 is 192 bit while 7850 is 256 bit
would it matter in real world performance ? is 660 worth $37 extra

no, you are thinking of AF not AA, aa at 16x would kill a 7850 in modern games at 1080p, if it could even do 16x AA. 4x AA is more than enough at 1080p to get great image quality.

for the overall performance for all new cards as u can see the Refrence 660 is better than a refrence 7870 and the OCed edtion "HAWK ïs way much better and yes it worth the extra money as it performs about 15 % much better than a 7850

Burntpizza might be asking the price because we don't know what country OP is from. Value varies a lot by country, since prices are different. As for the price difference vs performance difference, it's definitely more worth it than the 7870 vs the GTX660. With Catalyst 12.11 vs older nVidia drivers, 7870 only has a 5% gain:

So less than 5% now that nVidia drivers are also updated. But there's more reasons to take the GeForce - more consistent framerate delivery for example:

Or adaptive v-sync, for massively better framerates when you leave v-sync enabled and drop below 60fps. Also PhysX, but adaptive v-sync and consistent performance are the main arguments.

that issue is only tested on HD 7950 so far, you can't claim the same for all the radeons :)

@ OPs question: GTX 660 is imo at the very nice price point atm and is a better card than 7850 but it all depends on your budget of course, sometimes it is good to try and find good deals on the internet and you can do so. Can't say much about 7850 but GTX 660 and HD 7870 are more or less in the same league and they should give you overall good performance/experience in majority of the games. At last, whatever card you buy, you can be sure that you'll get what you pay for :) Quality and Brands do make some differences though

yeah i know , the new stuff is a 12.11 VS 310.70 BTW i tested both cards and i can tell u that both were kinda equal with slightly better performance for the 660 in few games as BF3

Yeah I know mate, but unless OP waits for TR to do more of these, we have to work on the information we have 🙂 And the GTX660 is extremely similar architecture to the GTX660 Ti - it's very unlikely that the GTX660 will have a totally different performance consistency. But I'll admit it is possible.

Gotcha 🙂 I don't think there's anything wrong with the 7950 consistency though - like you've said before, that's been observed in both nVidia and AMD hardware since TR started measuring this in 2011.

So 7950 won't look any less smooth than we're used to (since performance fluctuations have been standard until recently). The GTX660 Ti infact was just as inconsistent in the past, which makes me think what we're seeing there is a driver-based solution, because now it's flawlessly consistent.

I think what it boils down to is that at 30fps, a 7950 will look like 30fps. But with a GTX660 Ti, it will look smoother (since we're used to 30fps with a lot of fluctuation, not pure consistent 30fps).

Most people respond to the performance consistency thing by focusing on the inconsistency of the Radeon (which is understandable when that's exactly what the author does). Author should know better though - there's nothing unusual about fluctuations. What's really significant is the lack of fluctuation with the GTX660 Ti, which is a major improvement.

gigabyte gtx 660 2gb ddr5 cost $277
while 660 ti cost $364

flipkart provides it for 15.8k and in indore it is avilable for 15.9K

basically if you'll check Toms Videocard Hierarchy they're about the same. but as for the perfomance id go with the 7850 not because i want AMD its because i have a Sapphire 7850 before and it served me well. no problems whatsoever, was able to handle games at 1080 resolution.
