So I just bought the gtx 780ti (in the title) by EVGA without knowing Nvidia would come out with a 900 series of graphics cards. I've been looking up the differences between them and it seems that the 980 outperforms my 780ti. ALthough minimal it's completely frustrating that I just bought it literally a week ago. Simply put I wanted to ask the community what I should do. Return the 780ti and buy 980, or just keep what I have. Keep in mind I haven't even used the 780ti yet, it's still in the box.

You must have a nice returns policy where you are living as I would say that in reality you do not have suitable grounds for a return of product. However If you are able to wait a week or so before you make your decision there will be endless new reviews of the non-reference versions and their true performance benefits. The reviewers will be over their 'kid before Christmas', 'honeymoon bliss', rose coloured glasses etc and they may have some new recommendations.

I wouldn't worry if I were you as your card is quite good. Also don't fool yourself into thinking that this was not a carefully timed release of a product they have had for some time. The next "big thing" will be out in a few months anyway! lol
Hi I have the gtx 780ti sc acx in sli and they are great cards but i would return it immediately and get the gtx 980 for reasons it is newer tech, lower power and most importantly it has the 4gb VRAM instead of 3gb and to top it all off it is slightly faster.

Thank you very much for your input, im going to wait for a few more replies until I make a final desicion, but in the end I do think I might just return it.

Very true thank you. I'll contact Nvidia and see if they will let me wait another week to see if i can return it or not

Not a problem mate.

Anther inevitable thing will be a price fluctuation from both AMD and Nvidia. I cannot say if this will be positive or negative for consumers. Nvidia has played a very tricky hand with the 900 series claiming to offer both superior performance and a lower price point, which was AMD's turf for the last little while.

Hell yeah! just yell at your retail shop.

EU Law as of June this year, please bear in mind this applies to unused/unopened items only. If you've opened the box since making this post then this won't apply to you! :

14 days to withdraw when purchasing goods

In the EU, for contracts concluded as of 13 June 2014, you have the right to withdraw from your online purchase as well as from purchases made elsewhere than in shops (e.g. from a salesman on your doorstep; by phone or mail order) within 14 days.

This “cooling off” period expires 14 days after the day you received your goods. However, if this period expires on a non-working day, your deadline is extended till the next working day.

You can choose to withdraw from your order for any reason within this timeframe - even if you simply changed your mind.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must unequivocally inform the trader of your decision to withdraw from the purchase. You can do this, for example, by adding a written statement to the goods that you are returning by post, or by sending a fax or e-mail. It is not enough to just send the goods back. The trader must provide you with a model withdrawal form, which you can use to inform him/her of your withdrawal but you don’t have to use it.

The trader must give you a refund within 14 days from receipt of your withdrawal notification, but can delay refunding you if he/she has not received the goods back or evidence that you have sent them back. This refund must include any shipping charges you paid when you made your purchase. However, the trader may charge you additional delivery costs if you specifically requested non-standard (express) delivery. You will have to pay the costs of returning the goods to the trader.

For bulky goods (such as large household equipment), the trader must give you at least an estimation of the cost of returning the goods. You must send the goods back within 14 days of informing the trader that you wanted to withdraw.

I have just got an Evga gtx 980 and got a 3dmark 11 of 16380 which I dont think you will get from the gtx 780 ti. The other impressive thing is the maximum draw of the pc under load was a total of 300watts. Also temps under load are around 60c. The only downside is it still struggles to get 30fps at 4k in Flight Sim X which is my main game but its still i think the fastest single gpu at the moment i would suggest returning gtx 780 ti and wait for the gtx 980 ti if you can .

BUT 780 ti cuda core is 2880 and 980 is about 2040 , and 780 ti is 384 bit, but 980 is 256 bit, so how can 980 be better, so 780 ti must be very better on the paper, right?! please enlighten me about it
cuda 2880>2040, 384bit>256 bit, just in memory 980 is a little better ,

I'm a little too full of wine to get deep into this but the short story is that Nvidia have redesigned certain aspects of the 900 series so that. in certain programs/games, the GPU can achieve increased "performance" wile utilizing less cores and requiring less energy. The methods the 980 uses to achieve this do not translate perfectly to a few selected programs/games and the 780 may pull ahead there.

Do some research please they have already released official statements that ALL FERMI and ALL KEPLER will FULLY support direct x 12. That means as far back as a gtx 480 will work FULLY on direct x 12.

Yeah I caught the really skinny on the Dx12 situation from Nvidia early on. I really don't know where these people get their info. I guess someone posts their opinion and the magic of the internet turns it into fact before we can blink.

EVGA said they will give me a full return without having to pay stocking fees as long as I return it within a month. (of course paying for shipping which is only $10) So i'm definetely returning it since im going to be getting $50 back in my pocket with an extra performance boost, little as it may be thats worth it for me!
