Solution
Seeing how the 1070 is not released yet, it is too early to say. The 970 is a good card and you are probably going to be better off sticking with that for a couple more years.
June 10th for the Founder's Edition. Other 3rd Party cards will come out later, early July.

You mean this one? GTX 1080 gaming x? That's fast! Still,... bringing their cards so fast... it still could be somewhat unstable. I'm going to wait a lil while just to be sure. I don't wanna pay 370 dollars/€400 for a card that can already break. Besides, I don't have the money either atm. Just spend 1000 €'s on my pc to make it GTX1070-ready lol.

so gtx 970 SLI or single 1070?

I have a gtx 970 for about a year now, and was thinking about buying another one.
This is due mostly to me modding my bethesda games to max. I want to run all on ultra but due to huge texture mods i use this is impossible for me, hence my idea to get a second one, so i can pull that off.
Thoughts??

Judging by the fact that you really, really wanna play everything on ultra and maxed out settings, I would say 1070. You'll have the same room in your case + this card lets you play everything on ultra for atleast 2 years. I'm going to extend it for as long as I can, untill the games are starting to look ugly.

GTX 970 in SLI will only have 4 gb vram and if you want to play games like skyrim with mods ect, you need the 8 gb vram from the GTX 1070

970 4gb vram + 970 4gb vram = 2x 970 still only 4 gb vram

I've been using the 970 for more than a year, and really as the best GPU article from tom's hardware says you can play maxed at 1080, use the nvidia technology to down sample using bigger resolutions to fit into a 1080 monitor and tv and you'll struggle. I has this problem with Advanced warfare, I tried playing at 1440 and my FPS dropped to 20, absolutly awful, stick to 720 or 1080 and boy you'll have the time of your life, I've tried with arkham city, origins and tomb raider. Good fps.

Posting this from the future, found this thread looking for this comparison: http://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia-gtx-1070-benchmarks

the 1070 is $570ish in Canada and absolutely obliterates a 970, i titan X even which is damn impressive. now that all cards are released we can have legit conversations on the matter. i'm definitely up grading. the non-founders editions are cheaper and seems to be benching real time gameplay very well for the price and power use. There are certain applications where we have seen the 1070 pull ahead of the Titan X. bench marks are hard to go by because i've gotten worse passmark scores and bench scores than actual game play. my actual game play is always better than a pre bench scene transition.

Just a thought, I think not all non-founders editions are cheaper. On a local website here in Belgium, it showed that quiet a few non-founders editions were actually more expensive then a founders edition. I'm speaking about the MSI, Gigabyte founders editions. the gaming x for instance is more expensive...

Just recieved a phone call of someone who build my pc and where I got my stuff from. He said that apperantly the prices aren't going to be dropped anytime soon. This price will stay he said. Don't know if it's going to be true.

Well it was just too good to be true. 150€'s more isn't too much of a big deal, so I'll get it anyway, just waiting to safe some money. This thing is just too powerfull to say no...

Give it a few weeks for the stock levels of the GTX 1070 to normalize. Most of the pricing, especially on Amazon is opportunistic price gougers praying on consumers because of the current limited availability of the cards. By the end of July or first part of the August most vendors will have sufficient stock of cards. I am sure there might be a few specific GTX 1070 models that are on the higher-end such at the EVGA GTX 1070 FTW that will continue to see some limited availability more likely due to a smaller production runs.

I don't think we will see many, if any, of the 1070 cards at the MSRP level that was stated by Nvidia. I suspect $400 is going to be the price floor for next 6 months. Although various manufacturers will try to sweeten the pot with free game codes.
