The point of my posting this article was the part about the nvidia chip...

But what do the GTX 460 and the Radeon 5850 have to do with Southern Islands, which is clearly what you were mentioning in you previous post?

I remember seeing that before but i dont think it was here.

Nvidia released the beta surround driver. Someone was asking about it in another post, couldn't find it.

For those of you that want to build your own 3D Vision Surround rig, make sure your download the entire 3D Vision CD v1.31 which contains v258.69 GeForce and 3D Vision drivers. Just a note for our GeForce GTX 295 users, this driver has some issues we Quad SLI mode in 3D Vision Surround. We are aware of these issues and we will be providing a future driver update to support this configuration.

Of course, we also support 2D game play across three displays, but playing games in 2D is so… yesterday.

Let us know what you think below or follow GeForce on Twitter or Facebook.
Thanks and happy 3D gaming!

the 460 turns out as good as nvidia can get their head around as they did with the 8800gt....460 is the card to get currently..And those SLI numbers do look good...

i dont remember the 88gt knocking out the 8800gtx (wherein the ultra = 480), though it wiped the floor with the first 2 8800gts's.

imo the 460/8800gt is a fair comparison, only this time ati is much more competitive unlike the joke that was the 2900pro/xt.

8800GTX would be equivalent to the GTX480, GTSs would be equivalent to the GTX475/465 cut down versions, the Ultra would be equivalent to the future GTX485.

hi came across the recview from bit tech. the only place i saw this
"Granted, the HD 5850 outperforms the GTX 460 1GB at high resolutions such as 2,560 x 1,600, but these cards aren't aimed at people with expensive 30in monitors. The GTX 460 1GB has it where it counts: at 1,680 x 1,050 and 1,920 x 1,200 with AA enabled it comfortably beats the HD 5850 for performance, value for money, or both."
granted that these are factory over cloacked. but you can get a probable 40 mhz more...
At anadtech the 460 slis were playing with 5870 cf and 5970...
SLIs seems to be very interesting.....450 $ to abt 650$ or so..😀
would love to see surround numbers with sli.

I do believe this is an 8800 GT. Because it obviously is the most cost efficient card this gen. The 5770 was never quite fast enough to get that crown, and a $300 card, while good for the money, is still a $300 card. Now you have the GTX 460 coming very close to the 5850 for $70 less, while overclocking very well just like the 5850, and coming very close to 5870 crossfire when you have 2 GTX 460s in SLI.

The 8800 GT made it difficult to buy the 8800 GTX, just as the GTX 460 makes it difficult to buy a 5850 or GTX 470. Also the 8800 GT was never as fast as an 8800 GTX, the GTX beat it in most cases. The 8800 GTS 512mb came very close to the 8800 GTX, but still didn't beat it, albeit it made it obsolete for the price.

The 8800GT in SLi was able to run with and sometimes perform better than a single GTX280 whilst costing less and the GTX460 SLi'd does better than a single GTX480 in a couple of titles and here in the UK two GTX460's will cost some £65 - £70 less than a single GTX480, seems a bit 8800GT'ish to me.

All i hear is everyone hating on the 768mb version. If its so bad why is it beating the 1GB version?

I haven't seen anything that shows that. Anandtech reviewed a review sample 1GB and a factory overclocked 768mb version, with a 40 MHz lead on the core, if that is what your talking about. That said, the GTX 460 768mb is a great card too. For those who need to pinch pennies over the 1GB, they won't lose much performance at all which is great. That said, I would still get the 1GB every time.
