Shawk don't try and manipulate
first use the latest version of generations, version 3 which
includes blue shift
and if you want to compare lets compare but will use the same
merchant and the same currency
lets do a FAIR comparison
cause you talk in pounds i will use it and amazon.co.uk
so lets do a PROPER comparison between:
half-life generations 3 (i use version 3 which is the last)
and
half-life 1: anthology

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000633WP/qid=1126760635
- half-life generations 3
publisher: sierra/vivendi

VERY IMPORTANT: NO STEAM! STEAM FREE!
this version is NOT infected by steam!

games included:
.. half-life
.. opposing force
.. counter strike
.. blue shift
best price: 15.00 pounds (second hand)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000B8U0YC/qid=1126760635
- half-life 1: anthology
publisher: ea

VERY IMPORTANT: WITH STEAM! STEAM INFECTED!
this version IS infected by steam!

games included:
.. half-life
.. half-life deathmatch
.. opposing force
.. blue shift
.. team fortress
best price: 29.99 pounds (new)

so now Shawk and everyone in this group what is by far the
best version?
clearly sierra's half-life generations 3 is the winner!
so before this sierra's half-life generations 3 runs out of
stock SECURE your copy and warn all your friends about this

sierra/vivendi already announced they have stoped printing
new units so its only a matter of time before no longer you
will have the chance to buy it

ps: game.net is selling sierra's version NEW for 12.50 pounds
http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10320&mid=307690
i didn't want to include cause i wanted to compare prices of
the same merchant in this case amazon.co.uk

I wouldn't go for a secondhand version as the cdkey might been taken
Lot of hazzle and inconvinience

All you need is a CDkey for HL, CS or Gunmans Chronicle and you can get
the rest of the games free through Steam

I'd suggest Gunmans Chronicle as you get another game based on the
award winning HL engine, a game not included in the generations
pacakage

didn't you read all the post?
what did i wrote at the bottom?
you don't have to buy half-life generations 3 second hand
cause its still available NEW, and NEW is the right way to
properly buy any pc game title
game.net has half-life generations 3 NEW for 12.50 pounds
and i bet lots of store still sell it at least for now, so
if you don't have it buy now before it goes out of stock
and is no longer available

as for gunmans chronicle yes it can be a suggestion but
only for collectors cause its a weak quality amateur mod
type product
so gunmans chronicle only if you are a collector but as
for half-life generations 3 that is a MUST BUY a MUST
HAVE in any pc gamer collection

and why is half-life generations 3 so important?
cause its the last chance you have to play a classic like
half-live without steam!
valve has already infected all future versions of half-life
so half-life generations 3 package remains the last PURE
with no steam infection possibility to play half-life
fight for your freedom!
don't let steam get you!

ps: why do you talk about hl engine like its some big deal
when we all know its totally based on the id's quake engine

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about
Yes Valve based their engine on the quake engine

The amazing award winning HL engine is a highly modified version of the
quake engine
Valve added skeletal animation and Direct3D support and completely
reworked the game's AI

<Quote>
Half-Life was the first product for Kirkland, Washington (State)-based
developer Valve Software, which was founded in 1996 by former Microsoft
employees Mike Harrington and Gabe Newell. They settled on a concept
for a scary 3D action game and licensed the Quake engine from Id
Software. (Valve eventually modified the engine a great deal, notably
adding skeletal animation and Direct3D support.) The company had a
difficult time finding a publisher at first, many believing their
project ambitious for a studio headed by newcomers to the video game
industry. Sierra Entertainment had been very interested in making a 3D
action game, especially one based on the Quake engine, and so signed
them for a one-game deal.

The game was codenamed "Quiver" while in development. Gabe Newell
explained in an interview that the name Half-Life was chosen because it
was evocative of the theme, not clichéd, and had a corresponding
visual symbol: the Greek letter λ (lower-case lambda), which
represents the decay constant in the half-life equation.

The first public appearances of Half-Life came in early 1997, it was a
hit at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) that year, where they
primarily demonstrated the animation system and game AI. Valve hired
science fiction author Marc Laidlaw in August 1997 to work on the
game's characters and level design. Half-Life was originally planned to
be shipped in late 1997, to compete with Quake II, but was postponed
when Valve decided the game needed significant revision. The studio had
completely reworked the game's AI and levels in the year leading up to
its release. At E3 1998 it was given Game Critics Awards for being the
"Best PC Game" and "Best Action Game" at the expo. The release date was
delayed several times in 1998 before the game was finally released in
November of that year.

Don't like my nick?
I am sorry but I am not going to change it

AGHL is used as an advertisement for this group
I am using this particular nick at several HL community sites

First of all: VERC network forums
http://www.chatbear.com/board.plm?b=12&v=flatold&g=21

I own the rank of Senior with more than 1000 postings mostly helping
newbs with mapping problems
I am not active atm due to heavy workload

I have the option of skipping the group or killfiling everyone who
answers SK or particapate
I have decided to participate and mainly focus on enjoyment of life
seeing the positive in people rather than be a sour ranting person

Oi, Peter [AGHL], been meaning to ask you a question.

Do you own the alt.games.half-life newsgroup server (given the [AGHL] in
your name)? If so, do you have the power to permanently block
steamKILLER, or are you just a fan? Just curious.

Cheers.

the [AGHL] tag is a long-running tradition which many people in here
used on their nicknames when playing HL/CS/etc online

the original reason being that we'd often jump on a public server
together and the tag helped identify other people from the NG :)

I believe other NGs do a similar sort of thing, like [AGQx] (quake) and
[dagh-l] (the german HL NG)

Ah oldtimes. I used to be an AGQx-er (still have the wallpaper) until I
grew up and became an AGHL-er.
See I still got the tattoo. *unbuckle*
