Question Hard Drive Making Ticking Noise

My Seagate Barracuda is making a ticking noise, and I want to know why. I’m guessing I’m going to have to replace it anyway, but still.

thats normal for a hdd - it's mechanical and parts move. Is the noise getting louder? Do you have a backup ?

I noticed it got louder today. It also randomly stops making the noise from time to time, which is why I don’t think it’s natural. It’s too loud to be normal, it can be easily heard during everyday use

Can you check the SMART values of the HDD, and attach it here?

Drives making noise need a good backup.
Drives making new noises need a backup now.
Drives that make no unusual noise need a backup.

Drives that are brand new need a backup.

The ticking in your recording is NOT normal at all. As noted above, backup and replace that drive immediately. It is actively failing and could go total failure at any moment.

Hard drives making a ticking sound are almost always down to a drive failure; take a backup of the entire contents of the drive and then look to replace it ASAP.
