Question Hard drive stops windows booting up.

So I tried installing Matlab on my HDD and it broke it. Basically windows wont load, it just keep spinning the loading icon, but if I unplug the HDD it loads and works fine.
My question is if I can get my HDD working again either by reformatting it or if I can keep my current files.
I've tried booting my PC, signing into windows and then plugging the HDD in again but it doesn't appear on my list of drives.
Any suggestions?

yup, sound like it failed.

It appears to be a failed hard drive, so replacement is going to be the most likely solution.

I had a 3TB WD die at 5 weeks off the store shelf.
Currently, I have a 7 month old Toshiba Enterprise, 14TB, at Toshiba awaiting replacement.

They die.
