Hello,
My computer crashed. I friend gave me a computer. I want to take the hard rive from my old computer and put it in the new computeras a second drive and I don't want to lose any of the data from the old computer. How can I do this?

Hi luckybex, i didn't really understand your question "how to set you old drive as slave into my friend's pc?" or "will i lose the old data once i set my HDD as slave into another PC?"

However, u won't lose anything if you don't delete files or format your HDD.

To set your HDD as slave, open the computer's case, see if you have any additional IDE or SATA cable on you motherbord (depends on your HDD) if not, buy one- however that will be the data cable, plug it into your hard drive, now you can choose if you want to use the classical Molex power connector "the white one" or the special SATA power cable "black one"
once everything is plugged, close the case and start your machine, your old HDD will appear in "my computer"

PS. in case of IDE you have to switch the jumper in order to set your drive as slave, read what's written on the drive.

Good luck!
