HD5770 graphics card model numbers

Went to Newegg to buy, but found there are 8 different model numbers, all for the Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 PCIE. Is there a difference? Also, is there a 'real' difference between the 5770 and the 5740? I ask because I inadvertently orderedd the 5740 and am wondering if the 5770 is worth $40 more? System CPU is AMD Athlon II X4 620. Monitor 20 to 24" (not sure yet).

Do you mean the HD5750? There is no 5740. The HD5770 is worth the extra money if your resolution is 1920x1080 or above.

The different models of the same card from the same brand likely have varying outputs, fan/heatsinks and possibly some have a factory overclock.

Yes, I did mean 5750. Thanks. So I need not worry about model numbers? The MB is Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2. After several years of 'chickening out', I decided this time I was going to do a build myself, so I am a newbie and though I'm scared to death, I just know that I should be able to do this!

Don't worry, actually putting the components together is really pretty easy these days. It's picking out the parts that can be tricky but not that much and that's what sites like this are for.
How much do you have to spend? That motherboard is alright but if you are going for an Athlon/Phenom II system I would recommend an actual AM3 motherboard that can use DDR3 ram.

Well, I was trying to keep it under $600 but I ended up just under $635 (with exchanging the HD 5750 for an HD 5770). I've already purchased the parts but was told I could send the 5750 back if I purchased the 5770 card. Here is my system:

AMD Athlon II X4 620
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2
Patriot 4 GB DDR2/800
HD5770 graphics card
500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 (I don't need any bigger HD at this time)
Samsung SH-S223C opt. dr
Rosewill R220 case (I know it's a cheapo, but it will work)
Cooler Master RS-460 power supply
Win 7 Home Premium OEM

I do still need a monitor. Any suggestions in that are would be appreciated. Best bang for the buck of course, but mainly I'm using this computer for pretty extreme editing/manipulating photos (50-100 MB files or more) and possibly for encoding video. I will NOT be using it for extreme game playing.

Update: so I purchased the 'special' from Newegg 5770 at $130. Upon further review, I see it is 512 MB (rather than 1 GB), and specs show 1 HDMI, 1 D-sub, and 1 DVI port. I don't do 'gaming' but do heavy PhotoShopping/video encoding. Will I notice much difference with it being 512 MB ?

Nah, shouldn't matter at all. Even if you were gaming it wouldn't be a huge deal.
