HDD 99% Usage

In my "Task Manager", in "Processes" tab I have a constant 99%-100% Disk usage but I don't even have any apps running... What is the problem here?

what is the 'image name' of the process that's chewing up all the CPU cycles?

Nothing particular, about 15-20% is used by chrome, skype, but the HDD is stuck at 99% and has a red danger mark in task manager but nothing is listed that uses that, that is what worries me

I didn't realize windows 8 had a different task manager, win7 has nothing for 'disk usage' , but ya that could be a lot of things, background services from google, too much paging, defrags, etc. Try clean booting using MSConfig )

Chances are somthing that starts with windows is the culprit. It's a bit to go through for a nuisance, but if you want to know bad enough ...

Hi there Urkeboy,

In case you are using Windows 8, you can try the following: Windows+R -> Write services.msc -> Disable Super fetch and Windows Search.
If this is not the case or the problem persists, I would advise you to run a brand specific HDD testing software and check out the HDDs health status.

It doesn't happen every time I boot it up, it actually stopet recently... I'm kinda confused...

Well, if it doesn't come back, I'd set a restore point as it's working, in case the prob comes back.

Even though the issue is gone, it will still not hurt to run a brand specific HDD testing utility in order to see whether there is something wrong with the HDD or with the OS.
