I recently recovered data from an old HDD and had it transferred to a new one. The old HDD was an internal one - a remnant from an older PC build - and I used a HDD enclosure to connect it to my PC. I have tried to use the new HDD (also an internal one) in the same manner, but it is not working.
The old HDD had to be taken for recovery after an accident involving the Enclosure being dropped on the floor; that seems potentially relevant to mention.
Enclosure is an ORICO 3588US3-V1 3.5 inch.
New HDD is a Toshiba 1 TB PC P300.
If I connect the Enclosure to the PC without the HDD, it detects the Enclosure without issue. If I connect it with the HDD inserted, the Enclosure does not show up in Device Manager, and only briefly shows up in the "Safely Remove Hardware" pop-up menu, before eventually disconnecting (it makes the sound for disconnection, and the Enclosure LED changes colours). The Enclosure (with HDD) also shows up under Unspecified in a Devices and Printers in the Control Panel on a separate computer.
I cannot hear any whirring or clicking from the HDD when the Enclosure is connected.
What can I do to determine where the issue is? Could it be the port for connecting the HDD with the Enclosure? Since the HDD is brand new, and the Enclosure by itself connects to the PC without issue, with the problem only occurring when the HDD is actually inserted into the Enclosure, I can't think of any other hardware failure points.
Any advice would be appreciated, since I have spent a stupid amount of money on the recovery, and would really like for it not to go to waste.
