I am currently running into an issue where the HDCP handshake causes my HDMI over ethernet balun to black out and stop displaying a signal until I unplug the balun, and plug it back in.
This is the balun I am currently using: J-Tech Digital 4K@60Hz
It works great otherwise. I have it connected with CAT 6 running about 30 ft. It is pulling a signal from a gaming PC in the living room, looping it back to the living room TV, and then extending it over CAT 6 to a TV elsewhere in the house.
It displays 4K@60Hz just fine, and I can see the PC desktop and run games without any issues.
However, the second I navigate to any streaming site such as Netflix or Disney+ and start playing content, both TVs black out and stop displaying any signal. I can reset it by unplugging the ethernet cable from the receiving balun, and the image comes back and I can play Netflix shows without any issues.
I was wondering if there was any way to prevent the HDCP handshake issues whenever I start streaming a show. I have a cheap HDMI splitter that strips the HDCP signal, but it also degrades the quality of the image being sent and I don't want to add another device into the chain that could possibly fail. I would like the setup to be as simple as possible.
It's not super convenient to reach behind the TV to reset the balun every time I want to stream a show, but if that's the only way to fix it, I was also wondering if there was a way to automate the resetting of the device.
