Hot to the touch doesn't equal hot by any means. I would not mess with it, as it makes no real difference.

Just because you add mass to an object doesn't mean it will be cooler. It will just be more massive, and take more time to heat up, but it will still heat up eventually, as the thermal dissipation of the small amount of aluminium finwork is extremely minimal.
