AMD charges as much as they can to limit sales to as many processors as they can produce. When they produce more processors they can drop the prices on middle models.

It's always a matter of balancing sales against production by manipulating prices. Evidently people must be taking up AMD, because they're now able to charge more.

At least that's what they taught us in school.
