Hello, I was wondering if the Intel Pentium 4 670 Socket Type: LGA 775 would work in a Dell Dimension 4700 i know Dells manuals are never updated beyond what they have tested the machine with.

This thread (or parts of it) suggests that it may or may not work http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19283182.aspx

Don't forget about the 6** series too which are 64bit processors while the 5** series are 32bit.

620-670 P4 LGA775 will work too

So the P4 670 does work in a Dell Dimension 4700? B/c I bought one on eBay and power light on the front of my comp kept blinking orange. The comp wouldn't boot up.

But this thread http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19378721/19873163.aspx says that it will, with BIOS revision A10.

I purchased a P4 670, Sspec SL7Z3, running @ 3.8 GHz, L2 cache of 2MB. I had already upgraded to the A10 BIOS a while back so when I put the 670 in, reapplying Thermal paste to both processor and heatsink, my 4700 fired right up and has not given any problems. I had also reversed the fan last year and that cooled the case temp down alot.

Conflicting info there, but I suppose it's worth a shot, if the 670 won't cost you much. It's not like it'll be a night and day difference or very worthwhile upgrade anyway, though.
