I have a Gigabyte G5 GE laptop with a 1440p 60hz external monitor

For a year, I've been using my external monitor at 2560x1440 resolution just fine, but today it stopped working. Suddenly, there was a power interruption, and when the power went back on my monitor was stuck at 1920x1080 resolution. There was no update whatsoever.

Specs: Gigabyte G5 Ge Intel i5 12500 RTX 3050 Intel Iris(R) Xe

Things I tried: 1. Uninstall/Install Display Drivers

  1. Disable one GPU at a time
  2. Tried to disable GPU in BIOS but there is no option in BIOS
  3. Updated all drivers
  4. Updated windows
  5. Display settings are limited to 1920x1080 only. (it supposedly has a 2560x1440p)
  6. If I disable Iris Xe, the external monitor won't work, display port uses Iris Xe
Please help, I can't work with 27" 1080p reso. My monitor is a generic 27" 1440p 60Hz

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Might want to check and see if your laptop is pending any BIOS updates.

Uninstall/Install Display Drivers
Did you use DDU to remove all GPU drivers(Intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually reinstalled the latest GPU driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command?

RTX 3050 Intel Iris(R) Xe
Use GPU-Z and see what shows up in terms of your GPU's. Also, do you see anything flagged with a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager?

Thank you for your answer,

When I re-installed the drivers, I made sure to "CLEAN" install it, removing other driver versions. I also tried to uninstall the IRIS Xe and restart the machine to get the OLD version of the driver, still didn't work.

I also tried CRU but the resolution doesn't show up on the menu when I want to change the resolution.

No, there is no yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.

I don't know how to update my BIOS and I am afraid to do it.

Hey @polgas0625,

First off all, welcome to Tom's Hardware, the perfect place to see your problem being fixed. I'm @Vikko151 and I'll try doing my best to help you.

If I disable Iris Xe, the external monitor won't work, display port uses Iris Xe

If you use HDMI, your Intel Iris Xe iGPU can support up to 4096x2306, with a pixel clock of ~640 MHz. Your 2560x1440 60Hz pixel clock barely reachs 240 MHz which means everything is okay on this side.

Display settings are limited to 1920x1080 only. (it supposedly has a 2560x1440p)

The laptop's screen in itself is a 1920x1080 screen. There are very big chances you duplicate your desktop or something. Mabye might you want to check if this is on "Duplicate the screens"? If it does, try putting it on "Extend the screens" and check again.

Even if you use two different GPUs, the fact you duplicate your screen means that your both GPUs send the same informations to your both screens. It means that if your laptop's screen is on 1920x1080, your other screen will also be at 1920x1080.

I can't work with 27" 1080p reso.

I understand your problem. It's been 2 weeks I changed my 27' 1920x1080 screen to a 27' 2560x1440 and I really saw a big difference. It's very useful when it comes on snapping windows.

Anyway, good luck on fixing your problem! If anything isn't clear, don't forget to ask.
