Ok, I am losing the will to live...I am currently studing for my Windows Server 2008 Std MCTIP and am falling at the first hurdle
I have a PC running Server 2008 Std 64-bit (not R2.) For the exam and creating a domain, I have installed Hyper V so I can install servers as I go to test/play with. As per the exam, I have successfully created and installed a VM within Hyper V running Server 2008 Std Server Core, which is obviously cmd line only, but I cant work out how to assign a static IP to it! The command line I am supposed to use is:
netsh interface ipv4 set address name="Local Area Connection" source=static address=192.168.1.78 mask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.1.1
But I keep getting an error saying "Element not found"
If I do an ipconfig /all I'm told "IP Routing Enabled - no"
What am I doing wrong? Within Hyper V there are 3 networking options, External, Internal and Private - I have created an External network (but have also tried it on Internal - same result.) Basically, all I want to do have the physical server and all the virtual servers talking to each other - I not too fussed about them seeing the outside world. My physical server has an internal IP of 192.168.1.77 and I want the virtual servers I create to have consequtive IP's - please help before I give up and become a gardner....
