Just built my gaming rig this weekend:

Asus P5Q Pro mobo BIOS 1406 (per CPU-Z)
Intel Q9550 2.83 GHz
Zalman 9700 CPU cooler
4GB OCZ Fatal1ty DDR2
Crossfired Radeon 4870 1GB cards
Corsair 750W PSU
etc...

I have tried to OC the CPU based on printouts of other successful OCs using this same mobo and CPU - zero stability and only 16,700 on 3DMark06.

I admit I am a noob on OC'ing, but this can't be that difficult given AI Tweaking. I have simply changed the FSB to 424 and left everything else pretty much Auto or "as provided" (including CPU voltage).

The GPU's give nice performance playing Crysis on High 2x AA, but I have to believe I can get something more than stock out of my CPU.

Thanks for any advice.

Most of the advice you need is in the OC guide stickied on top of this section. Blindly copying other peoples settings onto your rig - not only will it not work(properly) in most cases, can lead to damaging your gear just as well.

your problem is "I have simply changed the FSB to 424 and left everything else pretty much Auto...."

read, learn, try and repeat whole cycle as many times as needed
