My son has a computer with A68HM Grenade motherboard, and am looking to buy a graphics card, for light gaming. For some reason the computer doesn’t even currently work for Roblox (an online kids gaming site) the graphics for the game are really jerky and make the game unplayable.

Could anyone recommend a graphics card that would be compatible, nothing too extreme needed as he plays all the common higher graphics online games on his PS4, not on the computer.

Thanks

What is your budget? Also, what make/model is the power supply in the PC? With this info, we can make some well founded recommendations.

Here is the info. Re cost - preferably up to £100. Someone also mentioned to me that I may need another memory card, and not sure if relevant but the computer is running windows 8, missed the free upgrade to windows 10 offer when it happened 😕

That is a 500w, generic PSU. You can still upgrade to Win 10 and I recommend doing so. It will cost you nothing.

What CPU do you have installed in the aforementioned motherboard?

Something like this should more than meet your needs:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-AMD-Ra...=sr_1_1?keywords=rx+550&qid=1575216457&sr=8-1
Am I missing something? That PSU is not 500W, it can output 216W in the 12V rail and your recommended card RX 550 has a minimum requirement of 350W PSU.
https://www.xfxforce.com/gpus/amd-radeon-tm-rx-550-4gb-core-edition-2

That PSU needs to be replaced if you are going with a GPU that needs anything above 75W.

I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but the total wattage rating on the label indicates a 500w PSU. Personally, I would replace that as well.

It does indicate a 500W PSU but that is if you include 3.3V and 5V rails. The 12V rail that is going to power CPU and GPU is the most important one. Most modern PSUs label their units based on the 12V rail ignoring the other 2.
Take a look in this photo and compare it with the above one.

True. However, the total rating is still 500w (a bold claim I would think). It should be capable of powering a modest GPU.

I am certainly NOT extolling the awesomeness of the OP's PSU.

Sorry about long delay - there was an issue with the pc which required taking it somewhere to be fixed - apparently they had to do a chip reset or something along those lines. Also had it upgraded to windows 10 while it was there.

So with all that’s been posted before, and an update to my budget - now aiming for the £150 mark if necessary - which graphics card should I go for?

Here are the slots I have available. It’s also worth noting that I don’t have a hdmi port on my pc whereas my monitor does. So if possible a graphics card that comes with a hdmi port

If the only games your son really plays is roblox i think a GTX 760 could do the job and its cheap
