Help me catch Sweet please...

I've done "End of the Line" about 5 times now (from the very beginning
since I hadn't read about the merciful "halfway save" the game allows
you), and every time I either hang too far back when he falls, or I'm
too far forward and he falls behind me. It's giving me fits. Is there
a predictable way to tell one has the car in the right position to
catch him?

I've just not had any problems with this. I didn't even know you could
miss him. I just stay as close as I can and as soon as the word is
given I am up the back of that fire truck and he is in the car

Well, I've tried a couple more times now, and when I think I'm under
him, he just bounces off the car and falls behind it. Obviously I'm too
close to the fire engine then. One time I tried hanging back a bit and
he fell right under the front bumper. I wish Rockstar had put a shadow
on the ground or something in the exact spot one is supposed to be,
because I'm not getting it.

Is there just some "instantly win the mission" cheat in case I can't
figure it out?

:O) Don't cheat if you can help it, it actually recognises cheating
and takes off points. I keep close as I can until the exact moment he
says to get my ass up there, then I just drive in and ram the back of
the truck. I don't know how many times I've done this now but it's a
fair few. I don't do anything else, no hanging back or trying to aim
perfectly to be under him, I just smack the back of the truck.

I think someone mentioned that you can save this mission in between
the attack on the building and the firetruck chase... yeah, i just
looked back and Cleve posted this not too long ago. Instead of chasing
after him just drive home and although you fail the mission you can
save and when you go to sweet's house and step in the red dot you will
start at the firetruck again. At least you don't have to keep fighting
your way through the rest.

Yes, thank God I read about being able to save after the Crack Palace,
since I can do that part with my eyes closed now.

So you slam the back of the truck, huh? What the hell, it's worth a
try. It would seem that that would make him fall behind the car, but I
can't argue with success. Maybe the "bounce" from ramming the truck
combined with the shake that that gives Sweet makes everything line up.

I can't believe I'm the only person to have faced this problem...

naaa. you're just the only one to mention it... it took me a few tries.

I finally got it thanks to Paul's advice.

I was thinking about the whole thing wrong-- I thought you had to wait
till the "Sweet's Grip" bar was exhausted and then had to have your car
in the magical correct position to catch him as he fell. Instead, it
turns out that as soon as the game tells you that Sweet's grip is
failing, you can just go up and bash the rear bumper of the fire engine,
and Sweet drops onto your hood as neat as you please.

All the "Sweet's Grip" bar does is tell you you have a limited time to
do that--essentially provoke Sweet's drop. It's NOT saying you have to
wait till his grip fails and be in position to catch him when it does.
If you do the latter, he'll always die, no matter where you have your
vehicle positioned.

I wish they'd make that clearer with the instructions they give you... >:-(

glad you got there but I found that one with the drunk on the rooftop
more of a pain at first. I still have trouble getting the truck in
just the right place, what an awful little sideshow!

just stay as close as possible......

you will catch him and then just blast away

i did have trouble because i did not realize you could go save and then
go back

i twas very disappointed that i could not torture the black cop after he
did what he did to me..

i would have like to have had the option of taking him out..
