So i built this little PC 2 years ago with an i3, 8gb ram, win7 and an old AMD HD 5850. Everything connected to my Panasonic HD TV with a DVI (GPU) to HDMI (TV) cable.

Decided to do a little upgrade, bought myself a MSI RX 460 4Gb (without PSU connector), to be able to handle more demanding games.

Steps i did:

-Removed 5850's drivers, reboot
-Run AMD Cleanup Utility
-Remove old 5850, inserted RX 460
-Reboot with new card

- PROBLEMS

- No image on my TV, just a black screen. (and 1080P-50Hz in corner)
- Removed RX 460, connected said cable to my mobo's DVI output... all good, got image again!
- Downloaded latest drivers for the RX 460.
- Re-insert RX 460 & Reboot

- PROBLEMS

- Again no image on TV, just a black screen

- FRUSTRATION

- Checked the GPU, fans spin, checked the min PSU requirements, 400 W, i've got 550.
- Checked the cable, no problems there either.
- Connected the entire PC to another monitor (using the GPU)... all good, got image again!

- CONFUSED.....

- Connected PC to different HDMI ports on the TV again, even used a VGA/DVI connector, no image on my TV.

Does anyone have ANY idea how i could get this fixed, looks like the card isn't bad, the cable isn't bad, it works on another monitor and the pc itself works on the TV with the same damn cable as long as the GPU isn't inserted.

Need help. I'm open to anything, don't want to RMA this card unless i'm absolutely sure.

Man, you sound really competent and have done absolutely everything that I would suggest. Going through your steps though...

- Connected the entire PC to another monitor (using the GPU)... all good, got image again
So the GPU does work then? As long as you use the monitor you're good?

I've been building PC's since i was 14 so i know a thing or 2. To answer your question: Yes, the GPU works as long as i'm connecting it to a "regular" PC-monitor. Checked the BIOS aswell, primary display adapter = PCI-E and not onboard, so i can rule that one out aswell. I don't understand why it works with an older 5850 but not with a newer model AMD GPU.

My TV has 4 HDMI ports, 1 VGA (PC) port, SCART & component. Only got DVI/HDMI on my GPU though and not that many different cables to test atm.

So to simplify, your real problem is the TV isn't getting a signal. We know the PC hardware is probably OK because it works fine on the monitor.

Wtf...

Is the TV 1080p? Maybe lower the resolution on your monitor, then plug in the TV? It should automatically reduce resolution but maybe worth a shot.

I seriously can't think of a single thing that would cause this problem.

Maybe make another post with something along the lines of "pc won't display image on my TV but works with monitor" for fresh eyes.

I really can't think of anything else to try.

Pretty much. Tried lowering the resolution to 720P & 1080P already, no luck there. And yes it's a 1080P TV, not sure about the max refresh rate though. Wish i had a 1050 or something to do some further tests. My 970 from my main rig will not fit inside the case so i'm screwed.
