Hi,

Im building a new i7 system but im worried about the amount of ram i use as iv heard people are experiencing problems when running 6 dimms at 1600 mhz, secondly i would just like to know if i would need to up the voltage on everything as i really dont wanna play with voltage and besides im just looking for a very mediocre overclock...

Specs would be:

i7 950
Asus Rampage 2
6 x 2048 OCZ Platinum (1600mhz) Modules

I intend to run this system @ these clocks:

Base Clock = 148
Cpu Multi = 23 = 3404 MHZ
QPI Multi = 18 = 2664 MHZ (can i up this?)
Uncore Multi = 22 = 3256 MHZ (Is this too high?)
Mem Multi = 1628 MHZ

I know every system is different but please answer on a theoretical basis...

Thanks

oh and secondly does anybody know if a 3.4 ghz frequency would be stable on stock voltage? @ what point would the voltage need to be increased and by how much?

Here a guide on how to overclock the core i7's. this should answer most, if not all your questions.

Some people have mentioned some problems running 6 x dimms - this is usually more to do with the brand or diims and the brand of motherboard.

check the motherboard manufacturers website for the recomended brands and configurations and you should be fine.

3.4 is possible on stock voltage (DO stepping)
