Question Help! PC Only Boots With 2 Sticks Of Ram, Not 4!

Hi, I'm trying to add new ram to my PC from 32GB to 64GB. When I add in the new ram, my PC won't start and the RAM status LED light on my motherboard lights up indicating it's not working properly. I have no idea what to do to fix this. I am trying to utilize the 64GB of ram for rendering purposes. I bought the 64GB of RAM after I tried to render with 32GB of RAM and it failed. Slightly panicking because of deadlines and 32GB ram is not enough to render with.

Which BIOS version are you currently working with on your platform? If you have updates pending, gradually work your way to the latest. The latest shown on Gigabyte's support site is version F11.

With your system breadboarded, see if removing the CMOS battery for at least 15 mins before replacing it, changes your experience.

Yes, it works with 2x16GB.

I have updated my BIOS and my PC has booted! BUT it's only able to read 32GB of RAM and not 64GB of RAM. I checked BIOS and in the channel B1 and B2, it doesn't read any RAM even though I've switched the sticks around.

Are you trying to mix two different 32GB kits? You said it was a 64GB kit, but you only listed your 32GB kit as 4x16GB.

I bought 2 kits of the same. At first I thought 32GB (2x16GB) would be enough, but after attempting a render, I just didn't have enough RAM to start the render. So I went out to buy another 32GB (2x16GB) of the exact same kit to put it in.

If you are running both kits at 2133-2666Mhz they should work fine together, but higher than 2666Mhz may not work. As others will tell you, modules are only guaranteed as kits, mixing ram may not work. Although that is usually only a problem past 2666Mhz. Look over the modules, find the new ones if you got them all mixed around, and run them through a memtest86 scan. https://www.memtest86.com/

Make sure that when you are testing the ram, that you are placing them in both channels A/B in slots A2 and B2. If those slots work, move both modules over to A1/B1. If only one module is detected in either configuration, your CPU or the motherboard may be faulty and require an RMA. The motherboard may not support double sided modules installed to a single channel like you have been testing with only slots A1/A2 or B1/B2.

1.4v on those kits is still a safe voltage to try starting with lower frequency and working up.

Use of multiple (2x16GB) kits have no guarantee to be compatible together.

Since you can make any combinations you want, you can also do your own compatibility testing with no guarantees.

Higher voltage would only help when you are at the point of overclocking the ram. The OP is just trying to get the system to function with 4 modules right now.

My brand new motherboard turned out to be defective, so I had to go back to the store and exchange for another one. Thanks for the help! I was able to figure out that the sticks are working, but my motherboard's modules were defective!
