How do I set the 'starting' sound volume level on XP Pro, so that it
does not automatically re-set itself to start with a very loud volume level,
at the booting time ?

Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a SoundBlaster Audigy soundcard? If yes, check the creative
website for updated drivers. There was a bug in one of their driver
releases that caused this issue.

My startup sound plays before the Windows volume setting kicks in. Use the
knob on the speakers to set it at the level you want for startup and then
reset the Windows volume control.

Something similar, I do have a SoundBlaster PCI128 card, but it is
behaving OK on Win98SE, which is loaded on another physical drive
at this computer. The dual-boot works fine. I am only having this trouble,
as I boot to WinXP Pro. This started after I loaded SP2.

I found some updates on http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ site,
but that didn't fix this problem. Any other suggestions?

Your question then and now refers to XP as does my response, the bug may not
effect 98SE but I am aware such an issue exists with some Audigy version
drivers and XP. That said, if you removed the previous drivers before
installing the latest drivers for your card and the new drivers did not
resolve the issue, your next step is to contact Creative tech support.

Hardware and driver compatibility are the responsibility of the
manufacturer's.

This happens even when the speaker 'volume' is set at the lowest.
At the boot time I have to turn 'off' the speakers now, and that is
the problem.

There are two sets of drivers for 'PCI128' card listed at Creative Labs
http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

The first set didn't work properly, but the second set with only 'drivers'
is working OK now.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
