Hi,
I can`t find out exactly what the working temp of an AMD Athlon XP
3000+ should be. Can anyone please help. At the moment it is running at
40C / 104 F with a Coolmaster Aero 7 Lite fan fitted to it.

That's the right temp. My 3500+ is running the same temps.

The working temp info is all readily available at the AMD website, had you
looked properly.

40C is fine.
