Anyone who's reading this, thanks in advance.
I have got the asus maximus IV gene(gen3) motherboard and it has 1 pci express 3.0 x16 and 1 pci express 3.0 x8 slot. x16 slot does not perform normally whereas the x8 slot performs normal. When I plug in the gpu in x16 slot, I get about 60-70% of the frame rate compared to what I get when I plug in the gpu into x8 slot.
For instance, if I get 10k score by plugging the gpu into x8 slot(bottom), top slot(x16) only gets me about 60-65% of that score.(6000-6500).
I am just wondering is it because my gpu cant perform at x16 or the x16 slot is faulty.
Reason why I am concerned about it is because I recently got a 4k monitor and planning to replace my gtx 780 ti with a gtx980 ti or add another gtx 780 ti to make sli set up. Problem is- sli would be impossible if the 16x slot is faulty and not sure if the 8x slot would bottleneck the 980 ti.
So wondering if there's something I could do to fix the x16 slot or should I consider a new motherboard altogether?
Thanks in advance.
