I just bought a rosewill 19inch lcd model R912e. it got ALL good reviews on newegg, very cheap price, came with dvi cable , 8ms response time and all. 3 questions...1. i didnt install the driver...i notice pictures and text arnt as sharp as my crt had, will installing the driver help this? (didnt install because i dont have a floppy drive, and the website driver did not work) 2. Any way to get rid of annoying fuckin backlight? when im playing dark games like doom 3 and quake 4, i can see a dim light appear at the top of the screen and sometimes around the lower edges..man, that is annoying. and 3. I dont think i see any noticable difference between analog, and dvi...anything imperticular i should look at to see if i can see a difference? thanks.

ps. this was my first lcd...why the hell would anyone want an lcd for gaming? The ghosting is HORRIBLE...i would pay for more a crt. i heard 8 ms was good. obviously not, or im just picking, but going from the crt to lcd...i think i just got screwed for 260 bucks :-l

everthing has good and bad points. it does however sounnd like you may have a backlight leakage. if an area is substntially lighter than the rest that is a fault. they should be as close to uniform lighting as possible.

make sure that it is set to its native resolution for reading text. also check the size of the size of the text some people prefer 96dpi some 120. the type of DVI cable you use can also make a difference it has something to do with single and dual DVI cables. dual have more bandwidth and can make a difference from what ive heard.

what graphics card do you have? have you tried looking at brightness/contrast settings?

it may just be a faulty product, so i woudnt write off LCD's from one bad experience. if you would pay more for a crt why not just pay more for a better quality LCD?

hope this helps and im sure people better qualified can help more.

well it seems to me, the only good thing you get out of lcds, is a wider viewing angle, and a space saver. my 19 inch crt from 2002' has bright colors, and 0 ghosting cuz its a crt. the ghosting thing is probably the biggest annoyance iv ever seen in a video game. how can you play video games with ghosting, even the slightest, and not get angry? it makes everything look fuzzy, even if its for a split second...games shouldnt look like that. and yah i messed with about all the options also, and nothing.

i aint the best to speak to about ghosting s i wnet from a crt albeit a cheap 15" one to a 15.4 WSXGA screen on my laptop and i dont notice any ghosting but i personally aint picky as long as frame rates are good. i think rosewill must be better known in the u.s as i have never heard of them in the uk. if you do buy something it is best to look at multiple reviews as image quality and LCD performance rely on one persons liking to another

seriously though, if you are one of the people who saw "8ms" and assumed the manufacturer had a legal responsibility to back that number up, then chalk this up to a learning experience.

HERE

independant reviews are based on real numbers and are free to everybody. you have to do research but it pays off.

Also, keep in mind that although 8ms may be accurate, people tend to discount overdrive. Overdrive allows the monitor to respond faster at the expense of quality. Some overdrive monitors have been known to not get the real image until the 3rd frame, which means your 8ms monitor is actually a 24ms monitor. Some reviews will still back-up the 8ms standard and not test the Quality of the image taking overdrive into consideration.

With LCD's, always do your research, and try and find professional reviews: a lot of user reviews might not take into account 80FPS frame rates, and are biased because they got better wuality then expected for the price, and not necessarily just 'better quality'.

Either way, call the Rosewill and complain, even if just based on the backlight bleeding. Maybe it's your monitor and not the brand. The word "Fuzzy" always makes me think that you're not running your native resolution. Always make sure your desktop AND your games are running at your native resolution.
