So me and my friend are working on a used budget build. He bought a PSU today, and it looked like it was fully working (keep in mind it was used) So we tested out the system with the PSU. And it booted flawlessly with the MSI logo and everything, BUT after booting into windows normally or safe mode or in any mode it shuts off. Like it goes to "Loading windows" or whatever its called and the monitor goes black and connection is lost. Also the PC uses a laptop HDD that works with sata and power and everything. (i know the hdd works because i booted it in the laptop, and if you launched startup repair on the pc with the laptops hdd it didn't shutdown, but when it finished, nothing happened and the pc rebooted and the problem wasn't fixed) The SATA data cable is new and fully working. The cpu/ram and hdd is fully detected with temperatures and everything, also there was no overheating. The cpu idled at 30C . The only sceptical thing is that i didn't hear the "click" when the 24Pin slides into the mobo, also the little clip on the 24 pin didn't grab on to the socket. And i searched a bit on the interwebs and people said lost of power when booting up, so i think its that but what are your thoughts?

Specs:
Motherboard: MSI G31M3 V2
RAM: DDR2 800 4GB
GPU: Only integrated.
PSU: Some 80+ certified bronze

Well, now you've found that this often fails completely.
Especially going from a laptop to a desktop.

so how does one fix it then?

You put a drive in, and do a clean OS install.
Or, test the hardware with a Linux Live CD or USB.
