Help with 4GB of Memory

I need help figuring out the right type of RAM for my motherboard.

I think this is the right type of RAM for my motherboard but I'm surprised at how expensive it is for only 4GB (it's over $100)

For new motherboards I can find 24GB of RAM for around $100 so I'm not sure why it's so expensive.


So can anyone recommend the right type of RAM for my computer for around $25 or so for 4GB from ebay?

It's expensive because almost no one makes it anymore as it's been out of use for years. The process is also more expensive, and it's an extremely low volume part.

You already know what to look for on Ebay " 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400"

Honestly it's time to replace it and memory isn't going to help your performance. Pentium 4s were bad when they came out, let alone now. I don't even think most of the prescotts can handle a 64bit OS so you might not even be able to use 4GB. No sense throwing money art it when you could replace it for 2 or 3 hundred with something much better

I use Windows XP and I know it can only read around 3.5 GB of RAM but I'm fine with that. It's still better than the amount of RAM I have now which is only 1GB.

I want to find some second hand RAM on Ebay for around $25 like I mentioned which is far away from $200 or $300. So that's my reason, I'm just looking for an inexpensive RAM upgrade at the moment. Not putting 100's of dollars (which is ultra conservative) into a new computer.

Can my motherboard take 2X2GB of Memory? Or does it have to be 4X1GB?

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say.... board have driver up to xp.

What does that mean?

that asus made driver to support the motherboard with win xp max they do not have any driver for os like vista or win 7 also it is only listed on there global site not available on any other of there web one

They haven't released drivers for any OS after XP is my guess.
