That's 64 1.2 GHz CPUs & 2 32 port switches in a 34U rack

Does the Tyan MB offer network booting? I wonder how much they would drop the price on that 1U unit if you didn't need the 2x40 GB IDE drives?

Anyway, you better have some good air conditioning

I think he was referring to Raystonns post a few days back about which desktop computer would be the most powerful. He called it a super-computer... AthlonMP sure is the most powerful desktop CPU these days, seemingly much better than Pentium 4 XEONs.

It's a super computer to ergeorge. You got to remember he's been working on the two 486 machines he bought for $15 at the flea market...dumb bastard...

Yea, I guess my first post wasn't very clear at all.

What I meant was a cluster 32 of those boxes in a single rack. 64 * 1.2 GHz Palimino in one rack is some serious power for the right kind of problems!

Geez tonestar, get your facts straight.

It's 4 486's, for $20 from the newspaper.

And I learned more about networking, cluster computing & linux from working on those machines then you'll ever know. Best $80 I ever spent.

What's the matter tonestar?
You cranky cuz your favorite, the dual PIII, got its a$$ kicked in a render benchmark by a single 1.2GHz TBird? By 15%! It even got beat by dual Durons. Let's not even go to the dual paliminos

I actually like your post to for another thread:

>While you're looking at the table, see how well the dual
>P3 performs !!! Give or take a few percent, its as fast as
>the 2x 1.7 Xeon in most tests !!! Shame on Anand for not
>including it in the graph.

They didn't include it because it failed in the polar coordinates test.

How's that for software compatibility?

So are you going to retract your comments about a dual P3 setup as being "Hardly SMP"...?

Ok, so how does highlighting another failure of the dual PIII prove your point?

It doesn't matter if it was almost as fast as the dual 1.7 Xeon on most of the test if it couldn't complete the test.

As for the "barely SMP" comment. It still stands, and it applies to the 760MP as well.

Well...because you can't think I will do it for you. If you have a cpu producing good results in 90% of the tests can you really discredit it if one of those tests doesn't work. The Intel instruction set is the benchmark and everybody writes for it...so why not discredit Adobe? A couple of other things....

I have been using Photoshop for years...I have used filters like Eye Candy, Bladepro, Extenisis etc. Never had to use Polar Co-ordinates.

I will report back once I test it for myself just to make sure Anandtech didn't stuff up again.

Also the the P3 has been around for ages....good to see it holding its own. Still the best compatable/ reliable/ performance/ cost effective/ cpu around in my opinion.

>so why not discredit Adobe?

I dunno? Maybe because it ran fine on everything else tested including dual Durons.

Really, I'm not so concerned with that failure. They didn't give any details on its repeatibility, etc. You brought it up, so I'm just pointing out that its far from proving your point, and in fact hurts your argument.

Not if you can think it doesn't. Have a long hard look at those figures.

I don't give a damn what results it gave if it didn't complete the benchmark.

It didn't complete the polar coordinates test. I'd like to hear from anybody who uses this filter often, if ever. Almost all the other figures are very favourable. Your are going to have to suck the whopper this time!!

Actually, most of the other figures had the dual AthlonMP's thrashing the dual Xeons. The dual P3's got trampled into the dust!

I hereby strip you of the title "power user" (if you ever had that title) and give you the title "overpaying, underpowered Intel junkie." You probably don't want to make me link/bump the thread where you first met/flamed ergeorge, and he handed you your ass on a plate. Have a nice life.

Whaaa?????
Bwwahahahaha...I knew you were stupid...not this stupid though....bwahahaha...
Those figures are a beautifull tribute to a classic Cpu. Hey cock licker, when you add the cost of a mobo and two cpu's in either the MP, Xeon and P3 and divide that by your performance figure what do you get dumb maggot? The best price/performance contempory cpu on the market!!

Ummm....people who can barely use wordpad aren't allowed to strip anybody of any title. You got to have a title before you can attempt to strip anyone else of one and umm...you don't.

Hey, weren't you the monkey who designed coat hangers at school and tried to tell me you designed a ship but couldn't provide any proof of it? Or was that some other dumb twat....I'm sure it was one of kelders boyfriends...

Come back if you get a brain transplant....if your trailer ever gets sold so you can afford it along with the years of prostition money you mum has given you. If it hasn't all been spent on crack...ass crack that is....hehehehe....

Price/performance...maybe. Once the 760MPX takes off, that will last maybe, say, ten minutes. Besides which, I might very well buy this Tyan mobo anyways, for four reasons:

1) Price aside, it is currently the best x86 dual-CPU system in existence.
2) For what I do, the performance actually matters a great deal--even if I'm not doing 3D design so much anymore.
3) I have one 64-bit PCI card already and another on the way. I can put the 64-bit PCI slots to good use.
4) I can afford it.

Currently all I need to do is locate the specs on the power plug and see about making a converter. (no, I will not get a different power supply. My current case and its power supplies are rather hard to replace.)

You got to have a title before you can attempt to strip anyone else of one and umm...you don't.
Umm...you do? Whoops, no you don't. All you have is a self-proclaimed (and dubious) identity of "power user."

Since you seem to lack any common decency, here comes a lesson on humility.

Everyone else, may I draw your attention to the death of tonestar's credibility. Or, if you have a few uninterrupted hours, peruse the entire thread in flat mode to see the full extent of his stupidity. Really, it's quite entertaining. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Relax guy's.....Tonestar is right in the sense that the P3 core is old and in ways it still shows off its muscles....It does get beat by a single Tbird and dual Palomino's and what not, your right, but he's just trying to make a point across.....but I have to disagree with you Tonestar with the best price/performance Dual system....It's up there yes.......but it doesnt have ample performance compared to the others in the majority of the benchmarks.....but it is nice to see it still keep up.....even though the majority of the time it was at the bottom of the MP systems with the Dual Duron system....

"Price/Performance...maybe"...So if you agree whats the arguement about?

A renderbox with 2 dozen cpu's in it beats all the configurations mentioned. Is that the kind of stupid debate you want to turn this into? Lets stick to the same price bracket shall we. Dumb arse...

Why tell me about the Tyan board....?

"For what I do, the performance actually matters a great deal---even if I'm not doing 3D design so much anymore"...read it again "even if I'm not doing 3D design so much anymore".....well hehehe....that just about says it all doesn't it?

I work in 3D every single day, yes every single day. Why? Cos I get paid to, but you DON"T!!!!

....why is that Kelledin?...Is it because you never get that kind of work because you in fact are useless? Or perhaps you never did get that kind of work...it sounds like a kind of confession to me..hehehe...hmmm...yes another pretender...so tell me..

Hey, weren't you the monkey who designed coat hangers at school and tried to tell me you designed a ship but couldn't provide any proof of it? Or was that some other dumb twat....I'm sure it was one of kelders boyfriends...

I think it was you...silly boy....your about to get laughed out of the forum again....unless you can provide some proof this time.... BET YOU CAN'T!!!

Kelledin you are an unemployed layabout. Anyone who has read previous posts in this and the graphics card forum knows your pretender and we have watched you walk away from debates many times.

Its a joke to hear you say your going to buy the Tyan board etc. cos you can't afford it and you have no use for it. Trust me, MS Paint just does not require that sort of processing power.

I am a mechanical engineer....I design and build machines every day.....what the hell are you? (Be carefull now, cos I'm gonna ask you some tough questions)...hehehe...you f%ucking lying maggot.

I never said it was my job. I do not list it as my occupation. It was a hobby that I had a great deal of fun with. I still have a few simple generated images if you'd like to see them, as well as trueSpace .cob files if you need proof that I created them.

Since you ask, I am an integration technician and (as my bio states) a *NIX specialist. I have also worked as a part-time developer for MCI WorldCom, writing software to interface with Dialogic CT hardware. I happen to be a college student as well; I somehow doubt you're even old enough to complete high school. I'm also a GPL developer in my spare time--check the Maximum Linux Project. You have tough questions? Ask away...
