Hello everyone. My Birthday is just around the corner, and I am looking to buy the R9 295X2 Radeon card. I know nothing about computers, I just like having one that can play games on max settings at 1080p. My current monitor is a BENQ 120hz 27 inch and I love it. I am currently using a radeon 7970 3 gig card overclocked edition, but I want to upgrade. I want to have a graphics card that can easily support 1440p resolution when I upgrade my monitor in the near future. I was wondering is it worth buying the R9 295X2? I was thinking that or 2 780ti's Nvidia SLI. I only have a Corsair 850 wat HX professional series power supply, and I don't really want to have to buy another power supply if I don't need to. My computer is your standard PC with no fancy extras. I have 1 SSD and 3 hard drives. I also use noctua NH-U14S CPU Cooler. Anyway I am worried if I go out and buy the Radeon 295X2 or 2 780ti's I wont have the right connectors, but I should. Anyway would love some feedback from more intelligent people please. Thank you so much for reading. Take care!

Solution

Yes, AMD has locked users out of the fan controls on the 295x2.

Shadowplay.
The link i posted is up to date (according to nvidia). I queried it with them when i wanted to sli my cards as the up to date cards link to that page for sli requirements on their site.

Their response was that the power requirements for 4xx/5xx sli is the same as 6xx/7xx sli and that the pdf just hasn't had the descriptions updated.

They exaggerate. The actual power requirements are lower than what they quote, as most people do not have good power supplies. What really matters is how much power the card actually consumes.
2 780Ti cards will consume 500W of power, and the 4770k around 95W. That leaves 255W for the rest of the system which is enough. Also, this power draw is when all components are running at absolute maximum, which rarely happens, especially for such a high-end processor such as 4770k and a GPU such as the 780Ti.

1) The 780 Ti is the most powerful Single GPU card (Titan black is pretty much the same with more vram) - this can be much simpler than dual GPU card, especially as you describe your self as knowing nothing about computers.
2) Its plenty powerful enough for 1080p and 1440p
3) No issues with power, your PSU will support this no problem.
4) You will save money over the 295 X2

Well I checked the benchmarks and R9 295X2 says it is the worlds fastest graphics card and it destroys it in terms of FPS and gaming performance. How can the 780ti be the most powerful card when the R9 295X2 is much better?

If you read my message, I said the fastest SINGLE GPU card. The 295 x2 is two 290x gpus on one card.

Hey RobCrezz good to hear from you again. They only have saphire ones in the local store and they haven't even received any asus brands yet. I have a choice of XFX, Saphire or Gigabyte. I am thinking of going with Saphire. So the Saphire R9 295X2. I am so excited. :)
