Hello everyone. My Birthday is just around the corner, and I am looking to buy the R9 295X2 Radeon card. I know nothing about computers, I just like having one that can play games on max settings at 1080p. My current monitor is a BENQ 120hz 27 inch and I love it. I am currently using a radeon 7970 3 gig card overclocked edition, but I want to upgrade. I want to have a graphics card that can easily support 1440p resolution when I upgrade my monitor in the near future. I was wondering is it worth buying the R9 295X2? I was thinking that or 2 780ti's Nvidia SLI. I only have a Corsair 850 wat HX professional series power supply, and I don't really want to have to buy another power supply if I don't need to. My computer is your standard PC with no fancy extras. I have 1 SSD and 3 hard drives. I also use noctua NH-U14S CPU Cooler. Anyway I am worried if I go out and buy the Radeon 295X2 or 2 780ti's I wont have the right connectors, but I should. Anyway would love some feedback from more intelligent people please. Thank you so much for reading. Take care!

Solution

Yes, AMD has locked users out of the fan controls on the 295x2.

Shadowplay.
Just confirming ONE more thing before I purchase lol. Sorry guys, but I am so excited and want to be ready. My 8 pin cables I got one is a blue colored head with 8 pins all connected as one, and the other is a black head with 6 pins, but has 2 pins that are loose like not connected as one.

Make sure you don't confuse the 8 pin CPU connector with the 8 pin PCI-E connector. If the connector is not plugging in, then there's a chance it's the wrong one. Some of the heads are square on both of the connectors and some others are octagonal. Pay special attention to this when connecting.
Happy building!

Okay so I purchased the card. It is massive. I am very happy. Just before I go to install it could someone please take a look at this safe link. It is a picture of my case. Is it safe to screw the fan at the very top? Where you can see those 2 square things. There is already one fan installed, but I am thinking of mounting it at the top on the other spot. Thank you very much everyone. http://imgur.com/m8yVOWC

Hey 17seconds. Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. I hope you saw the link to my case. I had a look and there is a 2 metal bars with screws on them. I will install it at the very top and make sure the tubing doesn't lay on any other parts such as the motherboard. I use a noctua CPU cooler which does take up a bit of room, but I will make do. I just get really worried about these things. To be honest it is just a graphics card and I am worried I will do something wrong. I worry too much it is just a GPU lol which are the easiest things to install.

Just a $1500 pair of GPUs.... no pressure.

Well I have installed every other card with no issue. This one just has an extra fan that needs to be screwed on. With your reply you just put on some pressure for me lol. Thank you for that. Also I had to pay 1900 dollars for the saphire one. 🙁

Ouch! I was hoping to lighten your anxiety level a bit by tossing out a joke, but man, $1900... I'm going to go put in a good word for you with the man upstairs. My neighbor Hank up there thinks he's Jesus, so I figure it can't hurt.

If you need to remove the existing exhaust fan, that's perfectly fine since you'll have the radiator fans up there doing to same thing.

Exactly, a perfectly reasonable purchase and an investment in the future. Just don't try to enable PhysX in any of your games and you'll be fine.

...And this is the part where I show a PhysX video and he regrets his decision not to get a 780 TI.

Do it for us too.. in India the card is brought by ASUS and is priced at 130,000 INR EXCLUDING taxes. That's $2170 plus tax.

I soo want to downvote your post right now.

Relax, I was joking. I don't actually want to make him regret a $1600 purchase. If he's a got a CPU to match that 295, PhysX will run fine on that.

Hello everyone. I will do a video and have it uploaded on youtube. The video will be of me taking the card out of its box, installing it and showing you the FPS I get on Crysis 3 on max settings. Stay tuned! Also I use an i7-4770k overclocked. So my CPU is amazing. :)
