Hello,

I am having the below configuration. my issue is with the temps. my idle temp is in the range of 66+ sometimes 70 as well. even my temp in BIOS 59-60degree. i don't know what's the issue. is it the cooler or the CPU is faulty. my CPU warranty end in July so if that's the fault then i can replace or claim the warranty. kindly confirm the means to troubleshoot it so that i can understand the real reason for it.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X
Cooler: Noctua NH D15 Chromax black
Motherboard: ASUS ProArt X570-Creator WiFi
RAM: 128GB G.Skill RIPJAW V
GPU: ASUS TUF 4090 (NON OC )
Case - Fractal Torrent

I am attaching reports from HWinfo during Cinebench R23, Prime 95 test of 1hour, during gaming and when nothing is on except some background tasks like Hwinfo and all.

I'm also attaching the pics of my desktop.
All are attached in the google links as I dont know how to attach files here directly.
Kindly let me know if i need to send any other reports to dig deeper into this case.

Have you tried to re-install the thermal paste yet?
i have reinstalled thermal paste in last Jan 2024, then again in October 2024. now i waiting for some input so if needed i will retry it with a deep clean. but after reinstalling the thermal paste i didnt see any significant drop in thermals. mostly it dropped to 60 from 65 i guess.
i have a cooler master thermal paste and a little of noctua one.

i normally spread the thermal paste over the IHS and then install the cooler.

suggestion to improve or any mistakes if you can find in the installation if any then pls highlight it so that i can improve on it

Just how "idle" is your OS idle ? Above 1% usage is not idle any more- What frequencies and voltages are at that time?
this is my current usage and the frequency is 4000Mhz

i know i am not at complete idle all the time. but my query start when in BIOS as well the temp are 60degree. i see many Youtube showing BIOS temps around 30-40degree so i wonder what might be wrong in my setup.

i have attached HWInfo stats in the main post
kindly suggest

Temperature in BIOS is not relevant as no power saving is enabled yet and practically with no load. It's used by BIOS just to prevent overheating during POST.
As for 5900x. it's a hot processor. even my 5800x was true idling (less than 1% usage) at over 50c under a 360 AIO cooler and pump running at full speed. What you can try is to control/lower voltages. Ryzen always keeps them higher at idle and drops with load. Use Curve optimizer in BIOS to lower voltages dynamically. For a quick test, enable ECO mode in BIOS. it lowers TDP to 65W-

ok then having idle at 65+ is normal right? just a concern how to know if the CPU is working properly and is not at fault?

also i will try repaste the thermal paste and have a deep clean this week and see the difference. any observation to keep in mind to check if the previous thermal paste application was correct?

I like to use OCCT https://www.ocbase.com/ to test under loads and stability as well to monitor with graphs.

Run R23 test and check if the score is normal, then you can know if the CPU is working properly

i am getting a score of 19450 in cine bench R 23 10min run. is that normal for my CPU. i have seen scores of 22000+ for 5900x.

note i have not activated PBO nor have i enable XMP for my RAM.

kindly confirm if the score is correct considering the conditions mentioned above

That's normal, sit and relax.

Thanks that’s a big relief
Any suggestions on which can be a good free sensor panel software? Currently I am using infopanel which uses HWinfo as it’s base. But it consumes about 8% of cpu usage. Hence wanted some light panel software

I use MSI Afterburner for monitoring when gaming. 5900x is not a gaming-aimed CPU, so I guess that you want a software that is always there. I have no ideas about it 🙁 If you get a user-friendly one, please tell me its name, thank you!

Make sure wattage monitoring is off. It steals performance (any software). Known conflict between AMD CPUs and Nvidia GPUs
