I have been searching for the past few days for an NVME enclosure that will deliver true USB4 speeds, that I can easily swap NVME's out of. I saw the ZikeDrive, Satechi, and OWC Express 1M2. I don't have a lot of confidence or trust in deciding between any of these. There might be newer options, but that isn't that important. I need something reliable but a lot of the reviews in these kinds of drives can be very misleading. The negative reviews specifically involve a lot of user errors. I was hoping someone more informed could assist in selecting an enclosure I could trust.

Make your own. Seriously, get a Startech USB to nvme cable and head over to thing verse to print an enclosure for it.

Orico has a few options with fans:

I was wondering about this. How hard could it be to make my own? Well, the first question I have is the board these enclosures use. I know the ZikeDrive uses an AsMedia ASM 2464PD Controller (

). If I just get a Startech cable, then what are these controllers for?

You’re safe to ignore that comment. A StarTech cable will not have a proper USB4 chipset (I know because I’ve looked for these enclosures and StarTech, so far, hasn’t made a ANYTHING related to USB4 + NVMe data transfer.) That commenter clearly doesn’t understand the tech.

This protocol is very new, i think you have a bit more to wait until a big player will involve in lunching something you described.
The protocol is not very new… (and I am taking into consideration the fact that your comment was 5 months ago). I got my Zike USB4 NVMe enclosure well over a year ago. The “big players” don’t really make drive enclosures. You might call OWC a big player in that arena. But often the units you find on Amazon are not true USB4 chipsets. (Orico, etc - may have finally gotten their act together) When Zike was the only company out there using the ASM2464PD chipset, there were plenty of false advertisers on Amazon using TB3 hardware claiming true USB4 compatibility. Shameful.
