Highest CPU with 133 fsb?

Is 2600+ fastest AMD for 133 (266) fsb? my local reseller tells me it's
2400+...
For Dragon + kt266. I wanted to install Barton 3000, but Andy told that
multipliers are locked now, so, only option is highest 133 fsb CPU...

Yes. Reseller's wrong.

But be aware that there are two versions of the 2600+: 266 and 333.
At pricewatch (www.pricewatch.com) I see several vendors listing the
2600+/266, prices starting about $73 US, shipped.

IDK about locked multipliers; I believe on the Thoroughbred-B chips
(such as 2400+, 2600+) they aren't.

The original 2600+ ran at 133fsb. Later versions now use the 166fsb.
You may be able to locate an older 2600 if you look hard enough.
ALL the newer chips after week 39/03 are multiplier locked, not just the
3000+.

Aha. Thank you both. I'll try to find something. It's funny though, since
this mobo can have fsb up to 233 M, so theoretically i could run 400M AMD,
but in practice it stops at about 14-150 M...So, from i see, it was just
commercial stuff, this "up to 233M" advertising...

And they are most likely more expensive...
From i see, it will be probably same old story again...replace cpu AND
mobo---oh, well 🙂

The high bus speeds advertised on the D+ board was just sales hype. Most
boards will run stable at 140mhz. After that, they start to lose stability
and cause data corruption.
As for the mobile cpu chips; the 35/40 watt models will work in a modded
D+ board, BUT, you will only get a max multiplier of 12 with any of them.
I tried mobile 2400,2500, and 2600 chips in my board and all resulted in
a max speed of 1600mhz. They do run cool though.

well, thanks for all info. It seems that i missed that upgrade to 3000. I
just wanted to wait until price of 3000 barton drops down to decent
levels....
I'll have to think a bit, but i guess i'll just get myself 2400 or 2600/266
anyway and i'll be OK for a while before i change my mobo. After all, going
from 1700 to 2600 is an improvement and i bet i can push it a little
further - to 140 fsb, like now. In any case, if i'm right, Tbreds are not
running as hot as my CPU, so if my current temps are from 34 up to max 48,
then 2600 shouldn't be any higher - i am using Zalman cooler and two fans
are blowing in and out of it.

I forgot to ask: to acajka:
Do i have to upgrade my BIOS to 2ba9 if i intend to install 2400 or 2600
Tbred? From i've seen on soyo site, this bios supports only Duron Apple bred
CPU - is Tbred in fact apple bred? And will new CPU still run with old BIOS,
or will old 1700+ Athlon CPU run with 2ba9 until upgrade?
The point is - i can buy new CPU and take old one back and a guy in a store
will buy it from me and i'll get new one cheaper, so i can't have both CPU's
at home at the same time. So, should i upgrade bios BEFORE or AFTER i change
my CPU?
Thanks!

If your 1700 is a Palomino core chip, then switching to a 2400/2600 Tbred and
running the FSB up to 140, will get you temps right around what you have
now. The Tbreds do run cooler clock for clock against the older core chips.
Most of the 2400/2600 chips run in the mid to high 40C range with average air
cooling.

Yep, Palomino type.

Provided your D+ board has already been modded to accept the Tbred chips,
bios versions 2BA7, 2BA8 or 2BA9 all work with the Tbred chips.
If your bios version is below 2BA7, flash up with the old 1700 chip installed.
Yes, your old 1700 chip will still work with any of the newer bios versions.
