In the early 50's my family had just moved to a new house. That Summer
1951 I went exploring the neighborhood. In the corner house of the next
street some people were building an airplane in the garage. I found a
place where I wouldn't be in the way to watch.

Seems like the man that lived in that house was an officer in C.A.P..
The young people that were helping him were in his squadron. From what
I remember they built the whole thing bit by bit. It was called a Piper
Cub. Did Piper start out as a kit builder?

A good quick history is at:
http://www.island-air.com/Instruction/history%20of%20j-3%20piper%20cub.htm

Cub construction ceased in 1947. Full kits have existed ever since, from several companies.
In this month's WagAero catalog, there're enough parts to build one, frame and all.
