Me and some friends want to connect our computers(3) together, for gameing. Is there a way to do this cheaply, without buying any more hardware, except cables?

3 cables and a $30 switch will see you right - however you need network cards in all the machines.

Theoretically you could have 2 NICs in a central PC and connect the other PCs via crossover ethernet to 1 each. Still no cheaper really than buying a cheap switch and a NIC for each PC...
