Hot Athlon Problems

I do not understand why all these people are having problems with their processors running hot. I have one extra fan pulling out of my box which is a two inch fan plus a golden orb fan on top of my athlon tbird 650 and it is stable at 25 Celsius. I have found that the fans are kinda hard to understand unless you have delt with this issue before. noone tells you to turn the fan down to the chip clockwise until you feel the processor touching. Everyone that is not doing that should really check it out. I had the problem and it took me a while to figure it out. I almost burnt up my chip building my new system. Later

you could buy them in teh UK for a while at 650...

I don't believe for an instant that your core temp is 25 degC - case ambient temp perhaps, but there's no way that's core temp unless you've got watercooling.

The main reason that people are worried about their temps is that they're overclocking. The Athlon can kick out 70W of heat easy if it's OC'd.

If you've got a 650 and your not OCing then you won't have any heat problems.

I really dont care if you believe it. It is happening and whether or not you believe it is your business. As for the processor I do have a 650 Tbird and it runs great and is extremely solid. The only problem with the setup is that it doesnt like java scripting or something with Free juno internet. Just locks up all the time so I decided to go with another isp. Later

25C is not unreasonable. My Duron 750@950 is running at 27C right now. That's using a GlobalWin FOP-32, generic thermal greese. Case is open, but I don't have a case fan. If I were using Arctic Silver, I am sure I could pull it down 2 more degrees to 25. And my processor is running 300 MHz over his TBird, and it's overclocked, with a voltage increase. I don't see what's so unbelieveable about 25C.

Man .. how do you get so low temperature? By the time windows is loaded, my Tbird-1000 already has reached 30C (and the room temperature isn't high. When I bought my PC, the temp could reach 60C .. I tried a Chrome Orb .. got to 62C ... went back to old cooling but added a fan to take air in the case, the peak temperature is now 55C. I am using the generic pink thermal stuff. Anyone has suggestions?

Well, I am using thermal greese. Which is way better than that pink stuff that comes with the heat sink. I also leave my case open. Other than that, my room temperature is about 10 degrees. Heh heh. It's -20 outside, and I never turn on my heater in here.

Ok. I am using some generic heat dissipation grease on my processor. If you built the pc I hope you only used a small amount on the top center of your processor. I also kinda lied a little about the heat. I am using a 4inch fan right beside my processor fan. So anything that comes out of that fan goes straight out of the case. I also am not overclocking the processor. It gets a little warmer when I run like q3 or the sims. Max heat is about 42c. I am running win 98. I hope this helps. Later
