before you go to that extreme try this
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1568517,00.asp

then if that does not work and you really do not want to solve the problem but
really want go back to an OS that will be unsupported pretty soon.
go to
http://www.bootdisk.com/
download a 98 boot disk and use it to format your "C" drive........from a
floppy!!
Then after you install 98 dont forget to reinstall all of your apps and of
course download all 98 drivers for your devices, reinstall your
network.etc.etc.etc.

On the other hand maybe a more detailed description of your problem will
motivate someone on this site to offer assistance....there are some very
knowledgable people here.

You probably have NTFS partitions. Boot from a win98 floppy, run fdisk and
remove the existing partitions. Then create new partitions as you desire,
and format them. Depending on what version Win 98 disk you have, it may
format for you.

Are you prepared to install 98 on your own and reinstall all of your
applications and drivers? You might want to consider another trip to the
shop to have them do this for you.

It is as easy to ask about the actual problem as it is to make silly
statements.. perhaps if you were to give us a better idea of what is wrong,
we could sort it for you..

Dortohy,
If you system originally shipped with 98, and you just recently upgraded to
XP, then I would recommend you return to 98, but the reason you stated for
returning is not necessary. XP is a much easier system to setup and maintain
a network than 98 ever was. I would suspect that if you did return to 98,
you would not have a clue how to setup the network from scratch and what you
are requesting is exactly that.
Why don't you tell us what the problem you have and perhaps we can fix it.
Also, when posting to more than one group, it is better to cross-post by
placing the newsgroups you want to post to on the same line separated by a ;

Yes, I read the question, but why do you think that using a operating system
that is now essentially unsupported will be any better?.. it would be far
more beneficial for you to work out the problems that XP has presented..

Of course, you may well have upgraded an old computer with minimal resources
to XP Home, but you did not include that info in your post..

My first reply was not intended as an insult.. I just feel that it is better
to move computer users forward than to help them regress knowing full well
that it will serve little purpose..

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel
> Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
