Hi all.

I want to overclock my cpu and dont want to incure any damage, i have been looking at all the how to guides but still very unsure and wondered if somebody could point me in the right direction?

Here is my setup.

I5 2500K
GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD4 MOTHERBOARD
CORSAIR H60 WATER COOLING
4 2GB CORSAIR VENGENCE 16000MHZ RAM
ATI 6950
XFX 850 WATT PSU

Now I want to get a steady 4.5ghz and want to use it 24/7, obviously i will need to set the multiplier to x45 but i am not sure on what else i am supposed to do? i know the voltages need to be good and as low as possible.

A) Will i incure any damage in the long run doing this overclock (I know the temps are fine though)
B) What would be the right voltages ect?

Any help and you get a free beer :bounce:

Hi there and thanks for your reply.

Now I have set the multiplier to x45 and tried setting the voltages manually but every time i tried to run prime 95 the pc crash due to lack of voltage. I have the gigabyte board and it says the max volatage for that overclock is 1.345 so i set it to auto.

I am now running prime 95 and its been running for some time and i gettings temps of 50c-55c on the package and lower temps per core so the temps are fine.

I am using cpu-z and touch bios to monitor the core voltage and in cpu-z it is reading as 1.284v underload and also touch bios is reading it as 1.28v

My core speed is 4513.2mhz

bus speed 100.3

multiplier is x45

and here is a pic of what is going on.

My question is that ok? and can i run that 24/7 without it damaging my pc?

Yes i was overclocking from bios.

I changed multiplier in bios and voltage... when i tried to manually set the voltage the pc would bsod or crash on windows load up.

I set the to auto in the bios and reset and loaded bios again... the bios then detected the voltage for the overclock of 1.345v and now the system is stable.

When the cpu is idleing in windows it shows 1604mhz @ 16 multiplier with voltage 0.984

when the cpu is at load in windows it shows 4513.2mhz @ 45 (bus speed 100.3) and voltage of 1.284v

Is that ok

btw i did a intel burn test 10 times and set it to maximum... could see the temp climb to 60c and the volt stayed under 1.3v according to cpuz and gigabyte touch bios and it stayed stable through it all...... All new to this sandybridge thang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess would like some input just incase i am doing something wrong

Hi there thanks for the response

I left prime 95 on for over an hour... watched a blu ray and installed some files.. temps are 55c or below and no crashing and working perfectly and the most the core voltage went to is 1.294v in cpuz so i beleive all is well.

To be honest i am sure i could leave prime 95 on for 24 hours but it is proving to be stable.

So thanks for you help and hope I have done everything ok.

Performance has increased which is great and it was so easy to oc... sandybridge for the win
