Question How do I safely remove this ?

My USB device is plugged into my PC but is NOT in use so why do I keep seeing a window which says 'This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows which might be using the device and then try again' every time I try to unplug the device ?

How did you "try unplug the device"?

You may have to power off the PC, then unplug to safely remove.

Yes but why is the normal procedure not working, i.e. taskbar, click on up arrow, click on external device icon, click on Eject Data Traveler 3.0 ?

By following the correct procedure of taskbar, up arrow, external device icon, eject data traveler 3.0 - and then the window described above appears.

what were you doing on the usb? is cache turn on? could be malware/virus scan still going?
did you open the usb on windows explorer? try closing that?
