How does one get Win9x Update files in 2016?

I lost my virtual hard drive file for the VMWare setup I use to run old Win9x games, and am having to rebuild it. When I last did this, Microsoft still slightly supported Win9x, but now Windows Update is completely inactive in the Win95 install I just made. My disk is an original with a lot of need for updates; I know those files are still somewhere on the web, but I am not sure how to find pages that are current rather than referring back a decade or two to resources that no longer exist.

How do I update my install?

On latest compatible software:

On everything else (esp. Hardware):

Toms Hardware is my favourite place for anything PC, but for W9x, i usually go there, as they have active developers writing patches to make contemporary hard- and software run under that old OS... No offence...

http://www.mywindowspage.com/download/os.htm........................ sp1 is down on the list, click it starts download. have not verified myself though, at your own risk ok

Thanks very much! I hadn't found that site at all in my searching.

Having found a site that lets me know what versions are which, I am apparently running 95A right now. They give me the impression that I can't move up to B or C for reasons that are left unspoken, I assume some major overhaul of the code. Not actually sure which updates I should be looking for, now.

If I can ever find my Win98 disk again, that site will come in handy, though. 🙂

If microsoft are not giving updates, you will have to go third party. Funny thing is i probably have this on an external HDD somewhere too, I remember downloading service packs for these old ops before microsoft's cutoff, thinking they would be handy, lol

I am collecting updates for windows 95 an will eventually upload it in a zip file along with some useful programs. The reason is I was given a compaq contura 430c and will use it as text editor, it has windows 95. People suggested I upgrade to windows 98 and that might solve a lot or problems but I worry about it being slow and some software i do not have disks for.

To find software look here:

I had win95A years ago and was never able to update it to anything higher. A simple mistake for microsoft but it was costly for all of us.
Was glad for win98se :)

I might look into this because some old games simply won't work for me any longer. Not even on winXP.

Hmmmm
Got me thinking here lol 😉

Thanks for the info and links guys :)
