I'm planning to upgrade to i5 2500k so you think it will handle next gen games (for like 2 years at least) if paired with 1650 super Oc or 1660?
Please think and write bcz I will upgrade only if you will say 😊
Have a great day!

Depends what you mean by future proof
And what you mean by it will handle
And also what next gen games you're referring to

Is it still a good processor in relation to today? No. It's 2nd generation and we're now on 10th with Intel. It's certainly still capable at doing stuff, but you will undoubtedly see it's limitations is higher end games. If you're only playing almost solely GPU intensive tasks or not very demanding games then fine, but it will certainly reach a limit in newer higher end games.

But no, generally it is not future proof.

they are people here who complaint about games being "laggy" at 180fps instead of 240fps, so define your needs.

it depend of the game, you can check CPU requirements for the style of games you're into to give you an idea.

but you should achieve console-like performance, so 1080p 30-60 fps in most games still.

if you play something like wow classic, sure
if you want to play to No Man Sky or Star Citizen, not a chance.

Also, they are more and more games DEMANDING 4 cores just to run, so soon we can predict some games will demand 6 cores as minimum.

That is kind of the general numbers on the GPU. I would expect with that CPU though to get worse numbers because it will probably bottleneck it some. With 4k framerates in triple A titles getting over 60fps in mainstream cards we think that 1080 is a piece of cake for every entry level card out there. For a 60 hz monitor that is pretty true. High refresh gaming monitors put a spin on this though when we are needing 240fps to feed a 240 hz monitor. Even flagship parts still struggle to meet those demands.

Nothing in computing is "future proof"
Some 9 years ago the 2nd gen i5-2500K was launched and was then considered as "future proof"
Today, we are on 10th gen, going on to 11 and the same question is asked.

We all have budgets. No doubt a 2500K would be a used processor and it is quite good.
If you are upgrading from a dual core lga1155 processor, you will likely be pleased if the price is right.
In the USA, a i5-2500K sells for about $30.

With the evolution of computer tech even when you buy the most powerful computer money can buy the best you can hope for is less than a year before it isn't the most powerful computer money can buy. Being overtaken by the entry level tech of the day takes a lot longer on that machine but it happens faster than what you think. My best guess at current trend is that it takes 7-10 years at absolute best. So "future proof" is less than a decade and a false statement at best. But for a 30 dollar upgrade on processor you really cannot lose. And an entry level 1600 card is going to keep up for at least two years at 1080 60hz. Again though as said nothing is future proof.

What are you upgrading from?
This is the main thing that needs to be answered before any meaningful recommendation can be made. Whether it's worth upgrading depends a lot on what CPU (and perhaps motherboard) you have now. It's probably worth listing your full system specs.

As for Call of Duty: Warzone, I believe its pretty demanding on processors. Trying to run that, while recording video, may be a bit too much for a 4-core, 4-thread CPU.

FFS he's asking how FUTURE PROOF is this and the answer I see is " if WOW, CSO , listing 10yrs old games etc you are fine" Yes it's a 10 years old chip, we know it will play 10 years old Games.....
The fact is, this chip will struggle to play current games, let alone any Future proofing.

i say if you already have the motherboard and want a quick and easy upgrade for 30$US, go for it.

if you plan to buy ram/cpu/mobo , go for a used ryzen or something.
you can find used ryzen 1700 for 100$US on aliexpress

another inexpensive solution is to buy a used workstation on ebay. something like a Z series from HP (Z640 etc).
they have good cooling and PSUs with 6/8 pins so you can easily add a GPU.

you can also check if they are shops specialised in used computers near your location. my local shop

I'm sorry for late reply but I'm getting a new build now, I3 9100F, GTX 1650S, MSI Pro Vh Plus, Corsair CV 450 or Gigabyte GP - 450 & Crucial 8gb RAM ☺
