How much ram for a gaming server is enough

Hi,
Is there a rule of thumb here as to how much ram for a dedicated gaming server is enough? Clock speeds as well I guess all the mobo jumbo is needed to know for a new build?

It is more important on a gaming server to 1) Utilize ECC memory &2) Components Certified to work with each other (test / certified) than the amount of RAM.

To answer your question, a a dedicated server will be just fine with 4GB of RAM or 6GB of RAM (on an X58 platform). You don't need to be "maxing" out your boards RAM capacity for your needs.

What about the RAM speed does it matter?
well I'm at it is this overkill? for a game server?

With your motherboard, you want a non-ECC memory. I thought you were getting a server motherboard

You can go with either or but to save you money, I would go with the one I listed as you don't need 8GB.

So in your own opinion the whole setup above in the thread is ok save the ram and you say lowering it to 4gigs either ECC or Non is good but which is best for a gaming server?

Yes... It looks fine & stay with 4GB to start. IMO

Also, don't forget a heat sink, as your CPU doesn't cone with one.
