How to (and is it save to) remove $UsnJrnl:$J:$DATA?

Hey guys,

I just did a disk check and it says my $UsnJrnl:$J:$DATA is 61235 MB.

Obviously this is too much, especially considering my max storage size is 130 GB.

Does anyone know what this does, wether it's important and if it's save to remove it?

Help would be much appreciated!

It tracks changes in ntfs volumes in some older OSs like 2000 and 2003, but it only track changes. It can be deleted, but as MS points out the worst that could happen is you may need a complete volume scan.

Is it normal that the journal is so big, and what would be your recommendation? Should I leave it as is or delete it?

It has probably just been around a real long time to get that large. I would delete it. Just curious, which OS, Server 2003?

Interesting that it is so large for such a new install, very odd. If you have an SSD you don't even want indexing turned on
