How "weak" is this system?
Generally, if it can run Win 7, it can run Win 10.

But no, there is not a valid way, AFAIK.

I don't believe so.

Have you considered one of the Linux OS like Ubuntu or even Lubuntu?
They are very windows centric, easy to figure out. Loads of support around. Great automated update feature.
You can create a live disk and run it from that as a trial or permanently if you wish.

As an aside, Windows 10 is generally considered to be lighter that 7 was on resources. If you go through it, turn things off, and tune it right it can be very light. The single most aggravating thing to me is it's constant insistence to be online.

I'm still living with core duo 2, i thought windows 10 will make my pc slower than it's, cause it's already slow.
It is "slow", because it is a slow PC.

Win 10 won't make it any slower.

A Core 2 Duo is getting long in the tooth...

You could be up against a 4GB memory limit as well, IIRC.

Probably would budget the least expensive SSD you can purchase from a company you have heard of. You can install 10 without a license, and it will run upwards of 30 days before throwing the activation watermark, but can still continue to use it with some small limitations (like desktop background).
I mention the above, in that if your system only supports 4GB, that is going to run to page file a lot. I still recommend Linux.

What is your motherboard?

Many 775 motherboard like yours can use the more powerful Core 2 Quad CPU, in most of the cases it will be a drop in replacement. If you can replace your Core 2 Duo with a Core 2 Quad, boost the RAM to 4GB or more and replace the HDD with a SSD, Windows 10 is the way to go.

Optiplex 780 comes in different sizes from small form factors to desktops.
It should have come with some sort of windows installed.
Why would you want a new windows?
You should be able to reinstall whatever windows you originally have and activate with the same key.
A free app like "magical jellybean keyfinder" will find your current keys.

Regardless I would be that you can improve the performance of your unit greatly by changing your windows C drive from a hdd to a ssd.

Do you have the funds to do anything like that?

I understand that some people are afraid of changes and they like using products they are used to, even if there's a newer version of it, but think like this: If you would have same approach when Windows 7 was released, you would be stuck with Windows Vista. And no, Windows 7 isn't better than Windows 10 believe. There are thousand reasons why Windows 10 is better.

a few last questions
does my motherboard support 2 HDD or 1 hdd/1 sdd? i have tried before to do that but i can't see where to plug another HDD or ssd.
what's the best Core 2 Quad should I get, Q6600, Q8300...etc?.

To answer your question, you'll have to find the motherboard's model number. If it's not printed somewhere on the case, you have to open the case to look for it on the motherboard.

i will definitely change to windows 10 in the near future, there's no other options i have to do that, and I'm not that afraid of changes, i just don't want to do that now.

Quite often, yes they are. Or money laundering. Or many other different levels of "Not Legit".
