Question How to know if my pc is capable of running a 2k monitor?

So I want to buy a new monitor that i can plug into my macbook pro 2017 with only usb-c, so there should be no problem with that handling the 2k resolution. But i also have pc, thats fairly old, lets say about 5-6 years with quite bad specs(intel core i3-540 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 240), so i was wondering how it would handle that monitor, i guess it wouldnt handle the 2k resolution, but would it be possible to downgrade the resolution to FHD while using the pc and while using the macbook simply upgrade it back to 2k.

"Handle", as far as output a display, you can look at the max supported resolution of the GPU or iGP.

The max (digital) resolution supported by the iGP of an i3 of the era is 2560x1600.
