There are no tricks, that article is just saying buy a laptop with the hardware good enough for your needs. They actually make a poor recommendation, they say about defragging your drive. Defragging is required for mechanical drives but should not be used on solid state drives, they fail to point that out. Defragging a solid state drive just reduces its lifespan.
