I still have the anti static bags that came w/ the gpu etc.
So how should I store it?

Thanks a ton

If it is a ryzen chip, you need to store it well, as to not bend the pins.
If it's intel, you should still store it well, but it isn't as fragile, as it doesn't have pins, it has contacts.

Its an intel lga 1151 but what about the thermal paste thats on it? Can I keep for when the mobo comes back?
Not really, you want to remove that, preferably before even removing the CPU from the socket to avoid smearing it all over the CPU and everything you may touch while handling it. Could cause a whole lot more trouble than it is worth, the fine particles in the paste and sticky nature of silicone oil can make it difficult to clean off clothes, furniture and any other porous or fibrous materials, it gets everywhere.

Thermal paste is generally considered one-time use.

Ok I think I was able to convince the shop where I bought to send me some for free when I get the mobo back.
But I should use isopropyl alcohol to clean it off right?

The proper way would be to put it in the "sandwich" of the anti-static conductive foam (black foam) and then in a static shielding bag (the silver non-transparent or gray/silver transparent one one). The anti-static (pink) bags do not shield the component from being zapped, they just prevent static to build up on the bag itself. The static shielding bags prevents the spark to pass through the bag to the component (especially the silver non-transparent one).
