Hello,
I have an laptop and a desktop , my laptop has both wired and wireless connections,

I want to use my laptop wireless connection to connect to the internet/WAN ,and the lan connection to connect to my LAN at the same time.

The problem is when I plug my LAN wire into the laptop , my laptop wireless connection stops!!
what should I do to prevent this from happening, I am on win server 2003 SP1, yes its old, but I use RIS…

Thanks in advance

Go to Start->Run, type "ncpa.cpl" (no quotes), and hit enter. Select Advanced->Advanced Settings->Connections and make sure the wireless connection is listed FIRST. If you need to reorder, do so and reboot.

Hey
I´m running Server 2003, the problem is when I plug my LAN wire into the laptop , my laptop wireless connection stops. I have a static IP on the wired netcard.

Stops as in the wireless connection is literally dropped, Windows reports a loss of wireless signal and says you’re no longer connected? Or stops as in the wireless connection remains active, no indication the wireless signal has been dropped, but any attempt to access the Internet doesn't work, it returns website not found, can't load website, that sort of thing?

You have to understand that ppl often use ambiguous terminology and we try to read between the lines to determine their intent, or make a first best guess. But sometimes we guess wrong.

So now you need to be absolutely precise in describing what "my laptop wireless connection stops" means.

Hi,

It´s okay
when I plug my LAN wire into the laptop, my laptop wireless connection stops, or it is dropped, working ( a red cross over the computer sign in the taskbar) and there is no internet connection.

I want you to do what’s described below TWICE. Once when only the wireless connection to the Internet is established and working (and obviously the LAN side is NOT yet connected). Then plug in the LAN connection, let the problem occur, and do it again. IOW, I want to see the results of IPCONFIG both before and after the problem occurs so I can contrast them.

Go to Start->Run, type "cmd" (no quotes), and hit enter. In the command window, type "ipconfig /all > temp.txt" (no quotes) and post the file's contents here.

Okay?

Go into the TCP/IP configuration for the LAN connection and remove the default gateway and dns references (192.168.0.1). I want those to be BLANK. All it should have is 192.168.0.1 for the IP address and 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask. That's it. Save the changes, reboot, and try again.

You originally had DHCP Enabled = OFF on the LAN connection. I then asked you to get rid of the default gateway and dns server on that LAN connection and only specify the IP address (192.168.0.1) and subnet mask (255.255.255.0). Instead you enabled DHCP on the LAN connection. Why?

But I can´t see why it should a IP issu....?

Earlier I asked you to make sure the wireless connection was listed first under Network Connections->Advanced->Advanced Settings->Connections. Is it? If not, do it now.

Go to Start->Run, type "ncpa.cpl" (no quotes), and hit enter. Select Advanced->Advanced Settings->Connections and make sure the wireless connection is listed FIRST. If you need to reorder, do so and reboot.

Oh, well, I haven't been on Windows 2003 server in ages.

I'm just wondering... is it possible there's something on that machine that is perhaps disabling the wireless connection as say, a security measure? Say to prevent “cross contamination” (for lack of a better term)? Maybe some anti-virus or anti-malware software? Maybe even a network configuration option in W2K3? Being a server it may have more stringent security measures than say a Windows 7 client.
